At the next meeting on Wednesday, March 18, 6:30 pm, expert landscape astro-photographer Dr. Mike Shaw will show how to align your subject with your favorite night-sky object. Have you ever tried to shoot the full moon next to your favorite landmark but you missed it? How about the Milky Way lined up over a lake, but it was way off?

Mike will walk through the use of today’s powerful mobile apps, which make it simple to plan exactly when and where to set up your tripod, what focal length lens to use, the exact compass direction and elevation to capture the perfect shot. The primary tool will be the Planit! photography app, but he’ll also cover other similar apps.
Dr. Mike Shaw is an astrophotographer and the author of “Creative Nightscapes and Time-Lapses,” and “The Complete Guide to Landscape Astrophotography.” In addition to his own photography workshops, he is the Lead Instructor for the 2020 Night Sky Academy in the US National Park Service, he creates online tutorials for Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, and teaches classes at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum and the Bell Museum.
His website is here. I recommend subscribing to receive his newsletter which is jam-packed with information. He has free video tutorials on a number of subject and as well as ones for Planit! And here is more information about the Planit for Photographers app.
March 4 Meeting Update
Did you miss the meeting on March 4? Mariann Cyr gave a great presentation, “Spring is Coming: When and Where to Find Minnesota Wildflowers”. Her list of flowers and locations is extensive and she was good enough to share her list as a pdf you can download. You can find it on our Learning Page.
