Minnesota’s North Shore

On January 15, 6:30 pm, Paul Sundberg will give a presentation, “Minnesota’s North Shore”.  Minnesota’s North Shore of Lake Superior is one of the most spectacular landscapes in the nation. Its “Nor’easter” storms produce powerful waves that pummel the cliffs creating some of the best wave watching experiences. Paul feels fortunate to have photographed Lake Superior’s pristine beauty for the past forty years. He hopes this selection of photos inspires us. From unique wildlife encounters to each changing season capturing these images has been a joyous journey for him. The magic of watching the full moon rising above Split Rock Lighthouse or the adrenaline pumping experience of calling in a bull moose each photo adventure has been a memory maker. Lake Superior has so much to offer, so many hidden treasures. As you experience this beautiful part of the world, remember to do your part in preserving these public places for generations to come.  This will be a Zoom meeting only.

Born and raised on a small farm south of McGregor, Minnesota, Paul Sundberg has been taking photos since the early 1970’s when he purchased his first 35 mm SLR camera.  Paul and his wife Karla moved to the North Shore of Lake Superior in 1976 where Paul managed Cascade River State Park and started photographing the wildlife and scenery along the North Shore. “The North Shore of Lake Superior is one of my favorite spots to photograph,” says Paul. Many family memories have been created while traveling the North Shore with their children and grandchildren.  The Sundberg family moved to Gooseberry Falls Sate Park in 1983 where Paul worked for 28 years before retiring in 2010 after 40 years with the Department of Natural Resources.  As manager of the park, Paul has had the opportunity to share his knowledge of the North Shore with many park visitors. “The North Shore is such a special place,” Paul says.  “I can’t think of a better place to live and raise a family.  Paul and Karla currently reside near Grand Marais where Paul continues to pursue his passion for photographing Lake Superior and The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
