How to Photograph the Milky Way and Other Night Sky Wonders

This Night Photography 101 webinar will give you everything you need to know to photograph the night sky with your DSLR or mirrorless camera.  It is aimed both at those who are brand new to nightscape photography and seasoned night photographers. Topics include how to photograph the Milky Way, the moon, meteor showers, constellations, star trails and more. In addition, you’ll learn about night photography gear, recommended night photography camera and exposure settings, and most importantly, how to focus and compose in the dark. You’ll explore the hourly and monthly seasonality of the night that is the most important for night photography. These insights will allow you to plan and shoot any night photography image you wish!

Dr. Mike Shaw is an internationally recognized astrophotographer and night photography teacher. He is the author of “The Beginner’s Guide to Astrophotography,” (2023), “Creative Nightscapes and Time-Lapses,” (2018) and “The Complete Guide to Landscape Astrophotography” (2017), and is currently working on his new book, “The Advanced Astrophotography Guide” (2027-expected). He has created a set of night photography articles for the Adobe Lightroom Academy. He licenses his work through Science Photo Library in London and is a Delegate to the International Dark Sky Association. He also helped create the video tutorials for the Planit Pro app. He taught Night Photography and Time-Lapses in the Bryan Peterson School of Photography for five years, taught Astronomy 101 classes to the US National Park Service staff for three years, and led an interactive Nightscapes Star Party Live! weekly on Slooh.com for two years. His work has appeared in National Geographic, CNN, CBS, NBC, ABC, Space.com, NASA, and in the US National Park Service. He currently resides in Arroyo Grande, California with his wife, two children and several cameras.
