Exploring Time through Time-Lapses
At our next meeting, Wednesday, April 18, 6:30 pm, Mike Shaw will be our speaker. Time-lapse videos are everywhere! From social media to websites to commercials to documentaries – time-lapses have hit the mainstream. The good news is that there has never been a better time to learn how to make your own. With camera gear you most likely already have and a few easy-to-learn processing techniques, you’ll be up and making incredible time-lapse videos before you know it! The presentation is for beginners through advanced photographers.
Dr. Mike Shaw is a night and nature photography book author, workshop leader and free-lance photographer/filmmaker based in St. Paul, Minnesota. Before his photography career took off, he was a physics and astronomy professor for over fifteen years. He also worked as an applied physics research scientist for over ten years. Yes, he IS a rocket scientist! Shaw says, “My photography expresses the freedom I feel when I’m outdoors in nature. My favorite images are those filled with the joy of being alive, a vital part of nature’s web. I constantly look for that connection with the wildness of the natural world; untamed yet harmonious. My photographic quest is to merge both elements inside the camera as I search for those elusive glimpses of nature’s perfection.” Here is Mike’s website and below is one of his YouTube videos on making a timelapse with Photoshop.
2018 Interclub Competition Results
Last Saturday at Spring Break, I was thrilled to accept an award from the Twin City Area Council of Camera Clubs naming our club as “Club of the Year”! (To be strictly honest we actually tied with the Minnesota Valley Camera Club for the honor.) Twenty of our member images were judged against other club entries and thanks to the talent of our amazing members, we earned the top award. A gallery of images submitted for the club competition is here.
For the individual competition eight of our members brought home one-runner up image of the year, 15 honorable mention ribbons and 38 acceptance ribbons. A gallery of those images will be coming soon.
Meanwhile, I’ll see you Wednesday night!
