Our very own member, Jeff Bucklew, will give a program on the basics of wildlife and nature photography. The program will be broken into three basic sections: technical, technique, and creative. In the technical he will cover the need for understanding exposure – aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. Also why understanding the big three is key to selecting drive modes, and which mode he uses and when. Of course he’ll also talk about the histogram and the use of “blinkies”, also known as the highlight alert. The technical portion includes valuable information that is an important consideration for all types of photography. In the technique portion Jeff will go over preparation, patience, and respecting and learning your subject. Also how getting to know your subject will help you to anticipate when something is about to happen. Finally, in the creative portion Jeff will talk about being creative, and having fun. There will be plenty of example images helping to illustrate the points throughout the program.
Jeff has been enjoying gallery representation at Seasons on St. Croix Gallery in Hudson for over six years and because of his signature style, Jeff has become the exclusive photographer for the Hudson Chamber of Commerce and his work is used in their publications that are widely distributed. This past weekend I attended the convention in Rapid City. It was two and a half days filled with great speakers and outings and spending time with other photography enthusiasts. The convention ended Saturday night with the results of the year end “Best of the Best” competition. All images that had won 1st, 2nd,3rd place and honorable mentions throughout the 2016-2017 were judged again. I was very proud of our member’s work and brought back many awards. Those results will be announced at the meeting.
Stay tuned because we have lots more coming up this month…a second speaker and a group shooting opportunity.
