Lunar Eclipse

September 2015 Lunar Eclipse

Lunar Eclipse taken at Lakefront Park in 2014

In the pre-dawn hours of Wednesday, January 31, we will experience a total lunar eclipse.  I’ve shot these with photo club friends a couple of times before.  I am hoping that the weather for this one will be in my comfort zone since the next total lunar eclipse visible here, will not happen again until January, 2019.  I’ve learned that during the eclipse you need to constantly change the settings depending on the stage of the eclipse.  In the example, I would have been better off using a lower ISO and slower shutter speed when the moon had turned red.  This year I am hoping that the moon will set in a more auspicious place than it did in 2014.  The total eclipse will begin at 6:51 am and will be in the West-Northwest.   It will be only 6.5 degrees above the horizon, so I will look for a location at a higher elevation, possibly at Birkmose Park in Hudson. Our First Program Committee Meeting

Nine of us, including myself, met on January 17.  Everyone was ready to get to work to get great speakers and plan outings.  Lisa Weik has already arranged for a speaker for the September meeting!  Six of the people at the meeting have been members for only 13 months or less.  Even better, Richard Hudson and Peter Mutschler agreed to be co-chairs of the committee!  I know the committee will do a great job.  One of the ways that you can help is to complete a membership form.  It will be your opportunity to let us know what interests you the most.   The form and instructions are on our Membership page.  Just scroll to the bottom.

February Meeting

Our February 7 meeting will feature a judged salon.  I think these are one of the best learning opportunities there is.  We will see real images that real people in our club make.   I am always inspired by what others are doing, and I take away new insights from the judge.  I tend to fall in love with some of my own images, and it’s a good thing to have a critical eye that notices the things I missed in my infatuation with a photo.  Over the years, competition has given me added incentive to do better.

Reminders:

  • Be sure to enter the TCACCC Interclub Competition by February 10, 5 pm. Bring your prints to the February meeting so they can be delivered to one of the drop sites on time.  Awards will be announced at Spring Break on April 7.  Click here for more information.
  • If you haven’t already paid your dues, you can do that at the February meeting.
  • The assignment for the April salon is “Abstract” and the deadline for entry is March 14.  Here are some examples.  Remember that the bonus for assignments is to try something new and assignment images need to be captured after April 1, 2017, when the assignments were announced to qualify.
