Just a reminder that our next meeting will be Wednesday March 6th, 7:00 PM at the Phipps. This will be a fun and different meeting. We will break into smaller groups, critique 3 same images and then regroup to pool the comments. I also hope to edit one of the images live based upon the comments.
Part of critiquing photographs relates to the composition. Ever wonder why we can’t walk into a store and by a mat and frame for a 8 x 12 image (to match our camera) and that 8 x 10 is the standard? It goes back to the old 4×5 film days… HERE is an article that discusses aspect ratios and composition. Worth taking a look.
Anther component of composition is leading lines. HERE is an article on using them in landscape photography and HERE is one discussing shapes in composition. As always, the hope is for us to understand ‘rules of composition’ -to understand what makes the image ‘feel right’. But in the end, we didn’t write these rules so feel free to break them if you can get a stronger photograph!
Our Club (and hopefully some of you individually) submitted images for the InterClub Competition. The judging is open to the public and will be held on March 9th, 9:00 AM at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, 460 West Annapolis Street in West St. Paul. This would be a great opportunity to be a fly on the wall during a competition judging. Actual winners will be announced at the Spring Break event April 13th. Mark that in your calendar -should be a fun day of seminars and interaction with other photographers.
And if that isn’t enough valuable and interesting information… below is a video showing how the pros clean a camera sensor. I think I may leave it to the pros…
