May 3 Meeting and Short Notice Photowalk

At the May 3 meeting, we will have a competition salon judged by Alec Johnson.  Alec is a fine art photographer, and has won national and international acclaim for his work.  He was Executive Producer and was Director of Photography for the documentary, “The Story of Winter:  Minnesota’s Most Iconic Season”.  He is widely known for being a dynamic and inspirational teacher, honing his teaching skills as a professor of Entrepreneurship at the University of Saint Thomas and is a regular speaker and salon judge with Twin City area camera clubs.  I have always held Alec as a master of black and white photography and after the judging he will share a short program on the subject.  Here is where you can see Alec’s black and white photography on Lake Superior.  Everything he does has been touched with his unique style.

MN State Capitol Photo Walk

  • Saturday, April 22
  • Meet at the Hudson Exit 2 Park & Ride at 9:45 am
  • 75 Rev Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Saint Paul, Minnesota 55155

Troy Schmidt will lead a visit to the newly renovated MN State Capitol building in St. Paul. The State of Minnesota is wrapping up a $310 million project to restore the building and its amazing artwork. We will guide ourselves around the capitol building and photograph this amazing piece of architecture. Admission is free. Tripods are welcome, but please make sure they have rubber feet as to avoid damage to the floors. Please be aware that they may be busy with tours and other visitors, so be careful to avoid tripping others with tripods, and safeguard your equipment.

Recommended equipment: Tripod, remote shutter release, and wide angle lens (fisheye lenses are fun here!).

Troy apologizes for the short notice and he will likely make a trip there again.  If you can’t make this event, don’t feel bad…we can do another visit again soon!

N4C Panorama Print Contest

I will be attending N4C’s mini convention from May 5-7 in Guthrie Center, Iowa. Their annual Panoramic Print competition will be judged at the convention.   Entries need to be hand delivered and I would be happy to deliver an entry for you if you can bring it to the May meeting.  You can find the rules here.
