Wow -great turn out with around new 10 visitors! The meeting began with reviewing the results of our recent member survey. It really showed that we have a wonderfully diverse group, of varying skill levels and with a variety of interests relating to photography! I think this is great. We all can learn from each other and share our passions… which may lead to a new passion!
The result of the survey led us in making a few changes to our monthly meeting structure. I think this will help ease some of the challenges we have had as the Club grows in membership. We will be having ‘programs’ rotate on a basic 3-month cycle. I will keep a partial year schedule on our ‘about’ page here on the website. In short, our monthly meetings will be as follows:
Month One – Mini-tutorial followed by a non-judged salon (general member image discussion)
Month Two – Full night of judged salon. Images will be sent (prior to the meeting) to an outside judge. That judge will then present scores and critique the images.
Month Three – Guest Speaker
And start again!
We will also provide more in-depth periodic mid-month tutorials as well as continue photo meet-ups, etc. that really have been gaining momentum.
With the growth of the Club, we are asking members to become more involved and volunteer as they see fit or in areas they may have an interest. We defined several ‘areas of opportunity’ and many of you signed up – thanks! A member of the Club’s Advisory Committee will be contacting you in the next couple of weeks.
We ended the night with a non-judged salon. It will take a while for us to get in a groove on this but the point is to allow for general discussion and sharing. I think this will be great for learning, engaging and trying new things without feeling the need to have a score attached to your image.
I know this is a long-winded post! Almost done… Just a few important dates to be aware of. Because February’s meeting will be a judged salon, members need to submit (up to 3 images) to email@example.com by January 22th. If you have a print to judge, just bring it to that meeting. HERE is a link with further information.
Those wishing to submit InterClub Competition images as an individual must have them in by February 8th. HERE is more information on that.
And finally… We do need some help on February 15th, 9:00 AM at the Phipps as our Club is responsible for helping the Judges evaluate submitted prints for the InterClub competition. Our tasks are small but we need bodies. Please send me an email from the contact page if you are available. Thanks!
